MALIBU—The Malibu City Council and Planning Commission will host a joint public meeting and workshop to allow the public to voice their opinions regarding the Civic Center Design Standards Project on Monday, October 26 at 4 p.m. at City Hall.

“I encourage all Malibu residents, business owners, and other stakeholders to attend the meeting and participate in charting the future course of the Civic Center,” said Mayor John Sibert.

The Civic Center Design Standards Project was manifested by the City Council in 2014 with the Planning Department to develop a set of design standards for the Civic Center arena as the first phase of the longer term goal of developing a Civic Center Specific Plan.

A 10-member Civic Center Design Standards Task Force was comprised to work with the City’s design team, MIG Consultants and John Kaliski Architects.

The goal of the project is to develop design standards for Malibu Civic Center’s architecture, building dorm, landscaping, and the relationship of development and buildings for the public streetscape that falls within community standards, according to the City of Malibu website.

During the October 26 meeting, a presentation will be presented to showcase the work completed up until this point. Members of the community can send written comments to the City Council and Planning Commission during the meeting. They can also be sent via email to kstecko@malibucity.org.
