MALIBU/SANTA MONICA—LA Metro announced schedule changes for Bus Line 534, which is the primary public transportation service between Santa Monica and Malibu. The December service changes include minor schedule changes with a route modification.

Schedule Changes

Eastbound Weekday Changes

-The trip departing from Cliffside Drive and Dume Drive at 3:17 p.m. has been extended to depart from Trancas Canyon and PCH at 3:09 p.m. and still serve Cliffside Drive and Dume Drive at 3:18 p.m.

-The frequency of Line 534 is increased from approximately every 20 minutes to every 15 minutes in the afternoon peak (added one trip during this time)

Westbound Weekday Changes

-Maintained the two additional morning peak trips that were added in July.

Eastbound Saturday Changes

-Added 1:00 p.m. peak trip starting from Trancas Canyon and PCH in the 4:00 p.m. hour.

Westbound Saturday Changes

-Added 1:00 p.m. peak trip starting from downtown Santa Monica in the 3:00 p.m. hour.

Westbound Sunday Changes

Route Modifications

The adjusted route in the eastbound direction will improve connectivity with the Expo Line in Downtown Santa Monica. Passengers transferring from Line 534 to the Expo Line will now be able to get off the bus at 5th St and Colorado Avenue to board the train. This will make it easier for passengers to make the transfer at a closer location.

The eastbound stops on Santa Monica Boulevard at 6th St. and Santa Monica Blvd at Lincoln Blvd will be abandoned due to the route modification.

The December service changes are minor schedule changes with the route modification having a bigger impact on passengers. Metro has created service change notices that will be on all 534 buses. Metro ambassadors will be handing them out at the two stops to be abandoned prior to the December 10 implementation date so as to notify affected passengers.
