SANTA MONICA—The City of Santa Monica is inviting residents to come to Miles Memorial Playhouse at Reed Park to celebrate the coming season with activities, performances, puppet workshops, Shakespeare, and more.

There will be an opportunity to get a closer look at the historic theater, participate in outside activities, eat, watch performances and receive information on future acts arriving to the Playhouse in the coming months.

Activities will take place on Saturday, September 20 at 12:00 p.m. outside the park at the north side of Miles Playhouse. A sing-a-long will be hosted by the actors of “Creating Arts,” dressed in full costume. At the end of the sing-a-long, a costume parade will be held to provide participants an opportunity to appear on stage, show their costume and win a prize.

Following the costume parade, “The Colonials,” a Santa Monica-based Shakespeare Company will perform “Play within the Play” from “Mid Summer Night’s Dream.” They will also provide a teaser from the group’s upcoming Julius Caesar opening.

At 2:00 p.m., the activities will shift inside where Leslie Gray and Pi Theatre will perform a short “Shadow Puppet Show.” From 3:00-6:00 p.m., a performance will take place by the Santa Monica Symphony String Quartet via acapella singing and poetry. A small snack and beverage station will be available inside.

At 8:00 p.m., Santa Monica’s Shakespeare will perform “As You Like It.” The performance is Pay What You Can, where participants are asked to give at least $10.
