MALIBU—Last week’s rainstorm caused serious debris and mudslides on Pacific Coast Highway near Point Mugu.

“More slides are expected from additional storms along the coast,” Caltrans said in a press release. “A contractor has been hired to remove mud and debris, re-position K-rails that were displaced by mud slides, and repair highway shoulders and rip rap that were damaged or washed out. At some locations highway is covered in 4 to 6 feet of mud.”

Caltrans is estimating that a total closure of PCH near Point Mugu could be in effect for as long as 3-4 additional weeks. Alternate routes are being employed.
