HOLLYWOOD—A murder-suicide occurred on July 19, at around 12:40 p.m. inside Sunset T-Shirts Warehouse at 5401 Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. The incident left two men dead, but no one else was harmed. Police identified the murder victim as 50-year-old Marc Bayer, a Valley Village resident and tenant of the 5400 block strip mall. He was shot by 40-year-old Los Angeles resident and owner of the t-shirt store, Sung Chul Pak, before investigators believe that Pak turned the gun on himself, according to the LAPD press release.

Police first responded to a call that shots had been fired in or around the store, and upon arrival the two men were found in critical condition with gunshot wounds. A handgun registered to Pak was found at the crime scene as well. An LAPD official reported that the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the incident and attempted to administer aid to the victims, but pronounced both men deceased at the scene.

Public Information Officer Karen Rayner reports that officers were serving search warrants on July 22, but could not specify the subjects of the searches. “We are interviewing witnesses,” said Rayner, “but investigators are not releasing motives yet [until investigations are complete].” Officer Rayner states that claims that the incident was a dispute over rent are merely speculative at this point in the investigation.

No one else was injured in the shooting, but a section of Sunset Boulevard was briefly closed down.
