HOLLYWOOD—New details have emerged in the death of musician Prince who passed away on April 21. An autopsy was performed on April 22, but an exact cause has not been disclosed. Toxicology results are not expected to be received until several weeks. A private memorial for the singer was held on Saturday, April 23 at his Paisley Park estate where family members and close friends attended.

“A few hours ago, Prince was celebrated by a small group of his most beloved: family, friends and his musicians, in a private, beautiful ceremony to say a loving goodbye. Prince’s remains have been cremated and their final storage will remain private. We ask for your blessings and prayers of comfort for his family and close friends at this time. The cause of death remains unknown and it will be at least four weeks before we receive the results of the autopsy. An announcement will be made at a future date for a musical celebration,” a rep for Prince told TMZ.

Prince’s sister Tyka Nelson has been handling most of his legal affairs. News has surfaced that the singer did not have a will at the time of his death. Prince leaves behind 6 siblings, all who will have a stake at their brother’s estate. Prince’s half-sister Lorna passed in 2006 and his half-brother Duane died in 2011.

Prince’s body was found in an elevator at his Paisley Park home in Minnesota. Prince, whose real name is Prince Rogers Nelson, had a medical emergency on Friday, April 15 that caused him to make an emergency landing in Illinois. The musician cancelled two shows in the wake of the illness, where reports noted Prince was battling the flu.

TMZ reported that the singer had been using the prescription painkiller Percocet to deal with chronic pain he had been suffering from after having hip surgery. He allegedly overdosed on Percocet several days before he died.

Prince who was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota started his career in the late 70s, when he released his debut album “For You.” He followed up that album with “Prince” in 1979 that went platinum and produced the hits “Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?” and “I Wanna Be Your Lover.” One of the musician’s greatest albums was the soundtrack for the 1984 film “Purple Rain” that helped the rock, R&B, funk, hip-hop, disco and jazz star earn an Oscar for Best Original Song Score.

The album stayed No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts for 24 consecutive weeks and sold over 13 million copies. Hits from the album included “When Doves Cry” and “Let’s Go Crazy” which both peaked at #1 on the charts. Since his passing album sales and digital sales for the musician’s music has skyrocketed in stores and digital outlets like iTunes.

He sold over 100 million records worldwide during his career and earned a total of seven Grammy Awards. He also has a Golden Globe award on his mantle as well. He was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

He performed at the half-time show during Super Bowl XLI in 2007. He released over 50 albums during his near four-decade career. His last studio albums being “HITnRUN Phase One” and “HITnRUN Phase Two” in 2015.

His passing left many celebrities heading to social media to pay their respects to the icon. Pop icon Madonna released the following statement on her Instagram account about the musician, “He Changed The World!! A True Visionary. What a loss. I’m Devastated. This Is Not A Love Song.”

“The View” star Whoopi Goldberg tweeted, “This is what it sounds like when doves cry… Prince R.I.P. Condolences to his family & 2 us all.” Rock-star Gene Simmons tweeted, “PRINCE, sad to say, has passed on!!! He was a Giant. My deep condolences go out to his family, friends and fans.” Many celebrities paid tribute to the musician over the weekend dedicating performances in his honor, such celebrities included Elton John, Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion, Usher and Bruce Springsteen to name a few.

Prince was married to singer and dancer Mayte Garcia in 1996. He was working on memoir “The Beautiful Ones” at the time of his passing and according to reports had many songs completed that have yet to be released to the public.

TMZ reported that Tyka, Prince’s only full sibling filed legal documents in court on Monday, April 26 in Minnesota asking a judge to appoint a ‘special administrator’ to her brother’s estate because he had no will, and the bank, Bremer Trust where Prince managed most of his assets will have control over his estate.

On Thursday, April 28 a search warrant was issued by authorities in Prince’s death. Details involving the search warrant will remain sealed according to reports. It has been reported that the singer was found with prescription drugs on him at the time of his death.
