HOLLYWOOD—Well, it looked like audiences’ were interested in being delivered laughs more than anything else at the box-office this past weekend. Why do I say that? The Tiffany Haddish, Kevin Hart comedy “Night School” took the top spot at the box-office earning an impressive $28 million during its debut weekend. So the audiences were out in full-force, but I don’t think the comedy will have legs come next weekend. You’ll find out more on that later.
Nabbing second place was the animated flick “Smallfoot,” also with an impressive $23 million debut. This is good to hear because I feel like year after year, people forget kids like going to the movies to. It seems like the animated flicks are more prone to be released around the holidays and only during the summer months. If you put a good animated flick out there, audiences’ will flock America. Last week’s box-office champion, “The House With a Clock in its Walls” dropped to third place earning $12.5 million. After 2 weeks in theaters, the flick has earned over $45 million at the domestic box-office.
The thriller “A Simple Favor” landed in fourth place adding $6.5 million to its total, while the horror flick “The Nun” earned another $5.4 million. This weekend will be quite interesting because a major Oscar contender, “A Star is Born” starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper arrives in theaters. The film has been heavily promoted so I will not be stunned when it climbs to the top spot at the box-office.
