HOLLYWOOD—The season finale of “Dancing With the Stars” took place on Tuesday, May 24, with a new winner being crowned. All of the past contestants of the season returned for the finale. Throughout the night. there were performances by Pitbull, Fifth Harmony, Aloe Blacc, Fleur East, and Dan+Shay. The finale kicked off with a recap from Monday night. The performances took place on an outside stage while the finalists performed in the “DWTS” ballroom stage.

Kim and Sasha started the second half of the finale by dancing to a live performance by U.K. singer Fleur East. Following their performance was a compliation of scenes from different episodes throughout the season. Paige and Mark performed a live encore of their Paso Doble set in a imitated UFC steel cage. Finalist Nyle and Peta danced a old routine from a previous week.

“Dancing With The Stars” past champions Bindi Irwin, Shawn Johnson, and Emmitt Smith appeared with host Tom Bergeron who spoke to them regarding advice for the current finalists. Bindi told the couples to have fun. Shawn told them to have “heart and soul.” Emmitt added that “tonight is their super bowl.”

Fifth Harmony performed “All In My Head (Flex)” from their album “7/27.” Following their performance was a group dance performance from the pro-female dancers from “DWTS.”

Finalist Ginger and Val performed a past routine of the Argentine Tango. Antonio and Sharna performed their Jazz routine based on Disney’s Aladdin from week three’s “Disney Night.” Jodie and Keo performed their Jive from week 8 which gave the couple perfect scores.

Both the female and male pro dances had separate group dances. Pitbull “Mr. 305” took the stage to perform “Messin’ Around” featuring some “DWTS” pro-female dancers. The season 22 cast performed a summer themed danced. The judges were asked to describe and talk about the finalists.

Carrie Ann spoke of Ginger saying that “how can a meteorologist be hot and sexy?” When talking about Paige she stated that her weakness is she lacks emotion.

The final couples had to perform a 24-hour fusion dance challenge. Ginger and Val performed a routine mixed with the Argentine Tango and Foxtrot. Len told Ginger that she has “grown and flown” and got “better week after week.” Bruno loved the routine and said she “danced like a hurricane.” Carrie Ann told Ginger that she would miss seeing her dance and that she is a “beautiful ballroom dancer.” Ginger made a mistake during the routine but enjoyed the time with the audience. The couple received a score of 27/30.

Nyle and Peta were up next to dance. Their fusion dance was the Tango and the Cha-Cha. During their rehearsal Peta said that she learned from Nyle that “dancing is about connecting with someone on the dance floor.” Bruno thought their dancing was “glorious,” and it had “both Latin and Cha-Cha.” Carrie Ann signed to Nyle a statement and he cried from what she told him. Carrie Ann told him in ASL “thank you for showing your beautiful heart while you dance.” Len told Nyle that he “deserved to be in this final.” The couple received a perfect score of 30/30 from the judges.

Paige and Mark ended the night. They performed Jive/Salsa. Len told the couple that “all three finalists are winners.” Bruno told Paige that she “had technique and power.” The judges gave the couple a perfect score 30/30.

Now it was time to announce the winners. Coming in third place was “Good Morning America’s” Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy. Coming in second place was Paige VanZant and Mark Ballas making Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd the winners of season 22 of “Dancing With The Stars.” The reality-competition series is slated to return in September 2016 with all new celebs hitting the floor.
