UNITED STATES—Former NFL star, O.J. Simpson was released from prison, after 9 years for his role in a Las Vegas kidnapping and robbery on Sunday, October 1. Simpson was sentenced to 33 years, but was released early.

He was arrested in 2007 for the crime, where the athlete attempted to regain paraphernalia that belong to him from a Las Vegas casino.

The Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners in July 2017 voted unanimously for Simpson to be released. He released shortly after midnight to prevent concerns of a media blitz. Simpson left the prison with a box that includes several pairs of shoes and legal paperwork.

According to reports, Simpson is expected to move to Florida and stay with friends and family. Simpson was acquitted back in 1995 in the murders of his wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman in 1994. The family of Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman filed a civil suit in 1997 where they were awarded over $33 million by the courts who found Simpson culpable in the wrongful death of both Brown and Goldman.

Simpson played for the University of Southern California and won the Heisman Trophy in 1968. He was drafted into the NFL in 1969 by the Buffalo Bills. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1983.
