HOLLYWOOD—The “Ocean’s” franchise is back, but instead of George Clooney and Brad Pitt in the driver seat, Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett are in control. “Ocean’s 8” dethroned “Solo: A Star Wars Story” from the top spot at the box-office taking in $41.5 million during its debut weekend. Not a bad opening for the flick that many critics have called the female version of “Ocean’s 11.” I will argue I expected a debut closer to the $50 million range with such big names like Bullock, Blanchett and Anne Hathaway.  The action-comedy is enjoying success, but it will indeed be short-lived, more on that later.

Falling to second place was “Solo: A Star Wars Story” with $15.2 million. Since its release, the film has earned over $176 million at the domestic box-office. Will it surpass the $200 million mark? Yes, but in the eyes of the entertainment industry this flick was a complete bust. “Deadpool 2” landed in third place adding another $13.7 million to its tally. The sequel is on its way to crossing the $300 million mark at the domestic box-office after only being in theaters for a month.

The hotly touted horror flick “Hereditary” debuted to an impressive $13 million. The buzz on this flick is strong from critics, but audiences do not love the movie as much. So how it earns during its second weekend will be telling. Rounding out the top five is “Avengers: Infinity War” with $6.8 million. The film will probably end its run in theaters just short of crossing the $700 million mark at the domestic box-office.

As I stated “Ocean’s 8” time at the top of the box-office will be short-lived as the highly anticipated sequel, “The Incredibles 2” arrives next week and it’s certain to take the box-office by storm. I mean I couldn’t believe that there is very little animation in theaters right now for kids, so this is the perfect option.
