MALIBU—One pedestrian was killed and another pedestrian suffered severe injuries over the weekend after the two were struck by a vehicle on Pacific Coast Highway.

On Saturday, July 2, at approximately 5:25 p.m. 19-year-old Spencer Wickander and the woman he was with were hit by an oncoming vehicle in the high-speed section of the 32000 block of PCH.

Wickander of Peoria, Arizona, died at the scene, on the pavement, and the woman he was with, whose name is being withheld for privacy reasons, suffered severe injuries and was airlifted to a local hospital.

The other pedestrian is described as being in their 20s, according to the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station.

The victims were attempting to cross the street on PCH near El Matador State Beach, according to law enforcement officials.

PCH is known for its traffic jams on hot summer days, resultant of vehicles making parallel parking maneuvers and people walking in and across traffic lanes to reach the string of beaches.

All lanes of Pacific Coast Highway were closed at El Matador State Beach Saturday causing traffic congestion for drivers in the region.

There were no immediate arrests or citations, according to  officials. The accident is still under investigation by authorities.
