BEL AIR/BRENTWOOD—The cities of Bel Air and Brentwood experienced a power outage on Thursday, July 12.

Around 10 a.m., thousands of the Southern Californian residents were left without electricity. The power outage occurred a few days following outages in other Los Angeles neighborhoods like Koreatown and Westlake.

Previous outages have been attributed to the surge in electric usage during last week’s three-figure heatwave that hit the Southern California region.

The official Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Twitter page reported that nearly 2,940 homes in the Brentwood and Bel Air areas were left without power. DWP crew members have been working to restore power and solve the issue. A DWP official spoke with radio station KNX stated the outage was caused by outdated equipment in need of replacement.

Nearly two hours following the outage, DWP’s Twitter page confirmed that all except 900 customers in Bel Air and Brentwood had power restored. Power is expected to be back and running in the Los Angeles areas later in the day.
