WEST HOLLYWOOD—On July 1, at approximately 1:20 p.m., a young man by the name of Derrick Gardner was struck by an SUV on the corner of San Vicente and Rangely, just south of Melrose Avenue. On July 5, Derrick Gardner was pronounced dead after being in a coma for four days. The victim was cared for at the Saperstein Critical Care Tower at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Derrick Gardner was an aspiring model and was known as a socialite in the Hollywood scene.

Canyon News contacted Bobby Trendy, a Vietnamese interior decorator, designer and television personality in the U.S. who got his start on the “Anna Nicole Show.” Trendy said of Derrick Gardner, “He was so beautiful, he was my most favorite boy. He was a trophy and lived with me for a period of time.”

According to Bobby, “He was crossing San Vicente at Rangely and a BMW SUV driven by a woman hit him. He went to Cedars where they took out half of his left side of [the] brain so he had no left flap. His heart beat was 150 when it should have been 80. His temperature was 104. His heart beat went all the way to 180 — he then died this Monday morning at 2:25.”

Derrick’s mother also wrote to Wehoconfidential.com and said:

“I just want to thank you all for your kind words. I will update all of you. Derrick came into the Hospital Thursday after being hit by a car. His injuries were so severe he was instantly in a coma on scene. They did surgery as his brain was so swollen. They took off his left side of his skull to try and relieve pressure. The truth is he was gone and they couldn’t do anything. We sit here waiting for him to pass. Please keep all the great memories of Derrick alive and not the negative ones. He wasn’t perfect but he was loved by many. The family has not set up any donations for him just yet to help with the funeral cost so if asked for a donation, please know, we did not set this up.”
