MALIBU—On Sunday, September 2, officers from the Los Angeles Police Department followed a motorists who they suspected to be driving under the influence from the San Fernando Valley through Santa Monica and the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. The chase ended in the San Fernando Valley.

News helicopters with NBC4 Los Angeles captured video of the police pursuit of a 4-door white sedan starting at around 9:35 p.m. The vehicle was traveling westbound on the 101 Freeway. The LAPD North Hollywood Division confirmed that the driver of the car was a woman that they believed to be suicidal at the time of the chase.

Officers followed the woman at a safe distance for most of the pursuit. She exited the 101 Freeway at Las Virgenes Road in Calabasas and continued onto Mulholland Highway. According to officers, the woman continued onto the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. At times, the driver was speeding and passing other vehicles on the road unlawfully.

Once on the PCH, the driver passed the Santa Monica Incline and moved onto the 10 Freeway. The vehicle entered the 405 Freeway heading northbound, heading back towards the San Fernando Valley, 15 minutes later the driver exited the 101 at White Oak Avenue and and made an unexpected U-turn and re-entered the 101 Freeway.

According to NBC4 Los Angeles, law enforcement continued to keep their distance from the vehicle, and pulled off of the chase at around 11:20 p.m. The CHP was reportedly in contact with the driver’s family.
