PACIFIC PALISADES—On Monday, July 2, the Santa Monica Police Department received a call about a man threatening to jump off a bluff at Palisades Park.

Lieutenant Saul Rodriguez of the Santa Monica Police Department told Canyon News they first received the call about a man attempting suicide at 11:50 a.m. at the 1000 block of the bluff.

“Officers located the subject sitting on the bluffs away from the concrete railing. We notified our Crisis Negotiation Team to assist in an effort to safely secure the subject. Eventually, a diversion was used and officers were able to safely secure and restrain him,” Lieutenant Rodriguez informed Canyon News.

At 2:45 p.m. the man was reported safe and away from the bluff in Palisades Park. He was restrained by authorities and taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation. The name of the victim has not been disclosed to the public.
