HOLLYWOOD—When a franchise returns, it’s normally a mistake or a let down. However, “Predators” packs an exciting dramatic punch for the film that critics and moviegoers have been anticipating for the better part of a year or more. Director Nimrod Antal had the unenviable task of recreating the creatures that made us scream over a decade ago. When Oscar-winner Adrien Brody signed on after reviewing the script, I had high hopes for the movie. The film didn’t let me down, nor will it let down the fans who remember the original but hated the most recent “Predators versus Aliens” since the original film was released.

The official synopsis says the following, “A group of elite warriors are hunted by members of a merciless alien race known as Predators.”

The film was unrelenting and pulse-pounding fun. In true classic horror style it surpassed my expectations with even more scary creatures lurking about than the original. The action is nonstop once it gets started and Brody has such a magnificent way of expressing all types of emotions. In this film, he specializes in fear, shock and the look of doom. Director Antal passes by the emotions and lets loose with a velocity of drama that made me almost lose my breath while watching it in the theaters. This is of course a good thing for any film considered part of the horror genre. I was amazed how many times action sequences didn’t work out the way I expected they would and in fact surprised me over and over again.

There aren’t too many ways you can describe shocking scenes, fast moving action, surprises up to the last frame. For anyone who has been waiting for the return of the gory drama and frightening sequences of the original film, you probably won’t be disappointed.

“Predators” opens on Friday, July 9.

“Predators” receives Five of Five Stars.
