HOLLYWOOD—For the third consecutive weekend, the animated feature “Ralph Breaks the Internet” continued to maintain its grip on the box-office. The sequel managed to barely eek out the number one spot from “The Grinch” by taking in $16.1 million. At this point, the sequel has earned over $140 million at the domestic box-office. The flick is certain to hit $200 million before ending its run in theaters.
Nabbing second place was the animated flick “The Grinch” with $15.2 million. After more than a month in theaters, “The Grinch” has earned over $220 million at the domestic box-office. Still showing plenty of legs at the box-office is the boxing flick “Creed II” which landed in third place with $10.3 million. The sequel is certain to cross the $100 million mark at the box-office before the week ends.
It feels like sequels were major proponents at the box-office this week. Fourth place was a victory for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald with $6.8 million, as it inches closer to $150 million. Rounding out the top five was the musical drama “Bohemian Rhapsody” with $6 million.
After at least 2 slow weeks in theaters, thing up this week as we see some new releases with “Mortal Engines,” “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and “The Mule” open nationwide in theaters.
