BEVERLY HILLS—Rapper A$AP Rocky (AKA Rakim Mayers) became the latest victim in a string of celebrity residential thefts to strike Los Angeles when his Beverly Grove home was invaded by three armed robbers on Tuesday, May 16.

According to reports, the robbery occurred at about 11:30 p.m. in the 300 block of North Flores Street, when a woman was approached by three men as she was leaving Mayers’ home, TMZ first reported.

Upon her return, she was approached by the three men again, this time clad in masks and gloves. One of the men revealed a gun, and the three suspects forced the woman into the home where they proceeded to steal $1.5 million in jewelry. The suspects also attempted to steal a safe, but abandoned it on the street when they could not lift it into their getaway car, police said.

The woman, who according to media accounts is believed to be a relative of Mayers, was unharmed.

The suspects lack description, but police believe the getaway vehicle is a silver van, KTLA reported.

The Mayers’ robbery is the latest in a trend of crime targeting celebrities throughout Los Angeles. The homes of Niki Minaj, Alanis Morissette, actress Jaime Pressly, and reality show star Kendall Jenner have been burglarized in recent weeks according to police and media accounts.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said police do not believe the recent string of burglaries at celebrities’ homes are related.

“I spoke to Chief [Charlie] Beck about this,” Garcetti said earlier this year. “We don’t think that any of the celebrity burglary cases are related; LAPD Commercial Crimes has dedicated resources and is investigating them.”
