SHERMAN OAKS—Local actor, producer and stuntman Douglas Tait, who is best known as the horror master of Hollywood, was gracious enough to sit down with me this week before he departed to the East Coast in order to star in yet another horror classic. The talented and handsome guy, who is most often covered in makeup and prosthetics for films, laughed when I told him how good it was to see him without fake blood on his face. Tait is one of the funniest and most outgoing actors in the industry, and he enjoys being called a monster. It’s become a very lucrative profession for a man who looks as though he belongs on the cover of Esquire or GQ magazines.

Here’s Douglas in his own words discussing what he’s been up to since we last spoke with him and what he has coming up in the New Year. His excitement and thrill for his profession is palpable and infectious.

Q-You recently traveled to the Midwest for the convention Horror Hound. Did you enjoy it?

A-“Tommy, I enjoyed it very much. The people in the Midwest are great horror fans. They seem to be more die hard than fans here in Los Angeles.”

Q-Have you found horror fans to be as loyal as they say “Star Trek” and soap fans are?

A-“Absolutely. These horror fans go full out. They come to the conventions with all their families, some fully dressed up in their favorite characters, and with tattoos of their favorite horror icons.”

Q-What is your upcoming project, if you can tell us about it?

A-“I have two films for 2011. The roles I will play are intense characters and physically demanding. I will also be at a movie event in Germany next year with Ernie Hudson (”˜Ghostbusters’) and Gunnar Hansen, the original Leatherface from ”˜Texas Chainsaw Massacre.’” http://movie-event.de/

Q-Are you planning to produce again? Your most recent production “In The Name of Freedom” has done so well, are you surprised by its success?

A-“Yes my producing partner Isabel Cueva and I are working on our feature script ”˜Brothers and Enemies’ (based on our award-winning short film ”˜In the Name of Freedom’) and we are developing a couple TV pilots, which we will produce in 2011. I’m also developing a feature horror film called ”˜The Chauffeur’ with my director friend Chris Cashman.”

Douglas Tait’s Facebook page is the best place to keep up with his many upcoming projects.
