WEST HOLLYWOOD—The city of West Hollywood will host two Rent Stabilization Ordinance workshops for tenants in the month of January. The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 23. The “RSO Building Blocks” workshops are part of a series of workshops held throughout the year that aim to educate property owners, managers, tenants and community members about the City’s Rent Stabilization Ordinance (RSO).

According to the city of West Hollywood website, Tenant Basics will take place on Tuesday, January 23, at 7 p.m. at the West Hollywood Community Center at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard, in Rooms 5 and 6. The workshop will provide tenants with an understanding of their basic rights and responsibilities under the City’s RSO. Topics discussed will include unit re-registrations, limits on rent increases, security deposits, annual registration fees and pass-throughs, minimum maintenance standards, temporary relocations, requirements for legal entry, and short-term rentals, such as Airbnb.

The second workshop, Tenant Advanced will take place on Tuesday, January 30, at 7 p.m. at the West Hollywood Community Center at Plummer Park in Rooms 5 and 6. The session will provide tenants with more information about their protections under the City’s RSO. Topics will include eviction protections, tenant harassment and mediation services, social services for low-income seniors, reasonable accommodations under the federal Fair Housing Act, and information about pets, service dogs, and therapy animals.

The RSO Building Blocks workshops are free and open to the community. Reservations are recommended. The city of West Hollywood’s Rent Stabilization and Housing Division is dedicated to programs that promote “the quality of residential life” — a core value of West Hollywood.
