SHERMAN OAKS—MundoFox reporter Carlos Zapata pled no contest to felony assault charges on May 12. A press release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office stated that Zapata’s plea resulted in a sentence of five years probation and one year of domestic violence counseling.

The charges were enacted last year after an argument with his wife turned violent in their Sherman Oaks apartment. On December 3, Zapata and Luisiana Gonzalez allegedly had in a heated argument before Zapata threw a flower pot at her face. The blow resulted in serious injury and police involvement. Gonzalez later claimed that her husband had attacked her on a previous occasion as well, causing the district attorney’s office to tack on an additional felony domestic abuse charge to the case. Zapata was released from jail on $50,000 bail.

Updates on how Zapata’s career has faired during this time are not currently known. It was reported that MundoFox quickly removed the reporter’s public profile from their website after news broke of the incident, but the station has made no public statements aside from this.

In response to questions regarding Zapata and his wife’s current relationship status, Ricardo Santiago of the LA County District Attorney’s Office told Canyon News “it’s my understanding that they remain married.”
