BEVERLY HILLS – A 22-year veteran of the Beverly Hills Police Department passed away on May 5.

 

Officer Bob O’Connor was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1935. He was married for over 50 years to his wife Mary Rita, who was his childhood sweetheart. He began serving for the Beverly Hills Police in 1963 after an honorable discharge from the United States Navy. Officer O’Connor was assigned to the Traffic Division and helped begin the Police Department Golf League before retiring from the force in 1985.

 

Following his retirement, he became a PGA Golf instructor, which led him to teach golf at Pierce Community College and Los Angeles Community College. In addition, he worked for the Van Nuys and Encino-Balboa golf courses as he followed his passion for the sport.

 

Officer O’Connor is survived by a sister, brother, daughter, son, grandsons and several nephews and nieces. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on May 16 at the St. Cyril of Jerusalem Catholic Church on 15520 Ventura Boulevard in Encino.

 

After the funeral, the reception will take place at the Monterey Clubhouse of the Encino-Balboa Golf Course on 16821 Burbank Boulevard.
