LOS ANGELES—On Wednesday, February 28, the suspect responsible for attacking an 85-year-old woman was charged. Richard Rene Colomo, 41, was arrested by officers from the Los Angeles Police Department on Tuesday, February 27.

On February 10, Mi Reum Song was returning home from the grocery store when she was accosted and hit in the face by Colomo while on the sidewalk. Song lost her footing and fell to the ground, sustaining additional head injuries from the blunt force. Shortly after the incident, authorities obtained video footage of the suspect fleeing the scene of the crime.

During a press conference on February 12, the LAPD reached out to the community for help in identifying the suspect. Colomo was charged with one count of elder or dependent adult abuse, infliction of injury, with a sentencing enhancement of causing great bodily injury to a person age 70 years or older. The charge includes an allegation that the defendant personally inflicted great bodily injury.

Colomo faces a maximum sentence of 9 years in state prison if convicted as charged.The case is still under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, Olympic Division.
