HOLLYWOOD HILLS—A Hollywood Hills mansion, once owned by late Grammy Award-winning funk artist, Rick James, has been listed for sale with an asking price of $5.995 million.

Located just off Laurel Canyon Boulevard, the two-story home sits above Studio City and offers stunning mountain and downtown views. The traditional home features six bedrooms and seven and a half bathrooms within 7,555 square feet of living space.

The property boasts a gated driveway, a lagoon-style pool and spa, a koi pond, an outdoor kitchen equipped with a brick oven, a guesthouse and a pool house with a gym and a sauna.

The “Super Freak” artist lived in the home during the late 1980s and sold it in 1991 for around $1 million. Other notable tenants of the home include actress Amy Yasbeck, director Mark Buntzman, and late actor Mickey Rooney.

James has often been referred to as the “king of punk funk” for his fusion of funk, soul and underground rock in his music. An addiction to crack, cocaine, and heroin hampered James’ career in the 1990s and has been credited for leading to the musician’s 2004 death resulting from pulmonary and cardiac failures.
