SANTA MONICA—Santa Monica is the latest city to ban e-cigarettes in public places.

The City Council voted to restrict the devices on Tuesday, October 14. Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Beverly Hills also passed the restriction of similar objects.

The new rule will apply to Santa Monica residents beginning November 14. Retail stores that sell vapors will have to acquire a tobacco license. This new policy does not affect “Fix Vapor” and “Vapor Delight,” two licensed vape shops in Santa Monica.

The areas in Santa Monica where e-cigarettes will be banned include:

Third Street Promenade
Santa Monica Pier
Public parks
Public beaches
Library grounds
Within 20 feet of the entrance, exit or open window of any building open to the public
All outdoor dining areas
All waiting areas like bus stops and ATM lines

E-cigaretts are expected be restricted from residential places where smoking is already banned.
