SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Pier Concert Series, known as Twilight On The Pier, is set to return to the area on August 21. The free, weekly concert series, now celebrating its 35th year, will run every Wednesday night until September 25.

Each week will feature a specific sound from a particular region. The kick-off will feature Vampire Weekend’s frontman Rostam Batmanglij in a solo act as well as emerging R&B singers Dijon and Jen Awad. The following weeks are organized by themes such as Latin Wave, Middle East Beats, Island Tides, Aussie Splash, and Japanese Vibes. The series will feature a wide array of genres and musical styles that include Disco, Dance, Classical Arabic Music, Reggae, Art Pop and even Taiko and Steel Drumming.

Along with music there will be a new comedy stage along with a wine and beer garden, games and interactive art installations. The organizer of the event advises concertgoers to leave cigarettes, bikes, scooters and alcohol at home. Chairs, blankets, and pets on a leash are welcome. It is not necessary to RSVP or secure a ticket in advance.
