HOLLYWOOD—It broke all sorts of box-office records last weekend, and a spooky flick about a creepy ole clown has maintained its grip on scaring audiences to the core. “It’ secured its spot at the top of the box-office for the second consecutive weekend adding $60 million to its tally. In less than 10 days, the horror remake has already crossed the $200 million mark at the domestic box-office. Hmm, we could be looking at a flick that is certain to earn $300-$350 million domestically before ending its run in theaters.

A surprise debut for moviegoers was the action-flick “American Assassin” starring “Teen Wolf” alum Dylan O’Brien and Michael Keaton with $14.8 million to land in second place. A movie that I was eager to see, but is totally bombing with critics and audiences is Darren Aronofsky’s latest outing, “mother!” starring Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem. The psychological thriller debuted to a disappointing $7.5 million during its opening weekend for third place. The movie is being called perhaps one of the worst of 2017, and that’s not a good sign for an actress like Lawrence or Bardem who both have Oscars people.

The Reese Witherspoon comedy “Home Again” earned fourth place with $5.3 million, and is likely to end its run in theaters with a disappointing $30-$40 million haul. Rounding out the top five was the action-comedy “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” with $3.6 million to bring its domestic total to just over $70 million. This weekend will offer plenty for moviegoers with the sequel “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” “The Lego Ninjago Movie,” “Friend Request,” “Battle of the Sexes” and “Stronger” all hitting theaters!
