MALIBU—Scott Martin, who co-created and co-executive produces the Webby-nominated series “Family Dinner” with his partner Lauralee Bell, remains behind the scenes. The creative genius is certainly handsome enough to be in front of the camera, but his expertise is needed in order to create the most hilarious and groundbreaking sitcom in television history. Shows such as “Andy Griffith,” “The Beverly Hillbillies” and “My Three Sons” come to mind when you discuss the golden age of television, when TV was filled with many great shows. “Leave It To Beaver,” “Happy Days,” “Sanford and Son” and “All In The Family” are also shows created by geniuses. Not since Norman Lear has anyone come close to creating comedies like his prized series “Good Times,” “All In The Family” and “The Jeffersons.” Certainly his “Maude” series touched our lives as well.

Scott Martin is precise when he’s behind the cameras of “Family Dinner” trying to navigate and create this incredible comedic series, which is currently Internet-based. His partner Lauralee Bell tells Canyon News, “He is so unique in the technical aspects of production. Scott notices everything from color schemes to every prop. He’s always moving things, or sometimes placing them on set to make a perfect shot. Scott’s attention to detail is second to none.” Lauralee doesn’t have to tell us that. The most recent episode starred Shirley Jones, an Academy Award® winning actress. Jones said of her experience filming the series, “I had no clue what I was getting myself into. I certainly knew of Lauralee Bell and Scott Martin in the business, but had no idea what a webisode or Internet series was. I got out of the car right from the airport, and Scott had taken such great care of creating the atmosphere and the set at Cravings, that I was only there for a short time to be photographed and shot, that was it. The man is a genius, I have been on many sets, but this by far was one of the most professionally run in my career.”

Scott Martin is co-owner of Martin Bell Productions. However, long before he went into producing a series, he was respected as one of the most sought after photographers in the entertainment world. Despite being married into one of entertainment’s great families, the confident and mellow producer has won raves from the actors to his other technical team members of “Family Dinner.” When Lauralee Bell, who has been a well known actress and now a director, writer and producer for over two decades says you are good, that stands for itself. Shirley Jones’s career has spanned six decades, and the star has worked with giants in the industry and she feels the same about Martin. “Scott [Martin] is one of the greats in this industry. I’m honored that he and Lauralee [Bell] asked me to join their cast for the most recent webisode. It was so much fun both on set and off, thanks to his amazing eye for details. I’d work with this team any time. They have a great show and a great future.”

The theme of “Family Dinner” the series is, “There are dinners that you can’t forget.” Scott Martin’s a professional that you can’t forget. The very unassuming genius has the production wizardry of greats like Orson Welles and Billy Wilder. It’s that very genius that has placed “Family Dinner” on the short list of the greatest comedies such as “Some Like It Hot.” Scott Martin’s future is bright, and those smart enough to realize this, such as Lauralee Bell will only accomplish much more in the future in association with one of our great producers of this era.
