SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Police Department arrested 80-year-old Hugh Browning for battery on another individual on Sunday, April 26.

Sgt. Flores of the Santa Monica Police Department confirmed with Canyon News that the incident occurred on the 600 block of Strand Street where officers were dispatched at about 1 p.m.

Accusations of battery arose after an argument between Browning and a neighbor, who  alleged that Browning threw a plant and gardening tool at the neighbor before pushing her. There were no witnesses to this event nor injuries, but the alleged victim’s intent to press charges resulted in the arrest of Browning.

His arrest is categorized as a 243(a), which is a battery punishable by up to six months in county jail or up to $2000 in fines.
