BEVERLY HILLS—The Beverly Hills Police Department arrested serial burglar Michael Shawn Drew, 50, in connection to at least 12 residential robberies and 14 vehicle break ins on Wednesday, March 7.

According to the BPHD, several of the home burglaries transpired while the residents were in the house. It is not known at this time if Drew was the only perpetrator in the burglaries.

Officers were able to arrest Drew when they approached him near the intersection of Sierra Drive and Elevado Avenue. He matched the description of a suspect responsible for both vehicle and residential burglaries in the city of Beverly Hills, which resulted in his arrest.

Canyon News recently spoke to Kris Herzog, owner of The Bodyguard Group of Beverly Hills, regarding issues pertaining to Beverly Hills home security and the increase in burglaries in the region. Herzog is an army veteran and security consultant who provides security for homeowners, upper echelon politicians, and celebrities.

“These aren’t your typical burglars” Herzog told Canyon News. “These guys do their research. They use sites like Zillow and Redfin to find potential targets. They’ve got police response times memorized and are willing to risk their lives if they think you have valuables in that house. We’ve seen them get away with this stuff too many times.”

The Long Beach resident is currently on active parole for similar offenses in surrounding areas. He appeared in court on Friday, March 9 for arraignment. His bail was set at $50,000.
