HOLLYWOOD—Actress Shannen Doherty, 48, will be joining the new Beverly Hills “90210” reboot that is headed back to TV. The new series will be titled “BH90210” and Doherty will be co-starring with former cast members Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Jason Priestly, Gabrielle Carteris, and Ian Ziering. The series will have a run of six episodes that will feature the cast playing heightened versions of themselves. “BH90210” is scheduled to air this summer on Fox.

In an interview with ET co-star Tori Spelling explained the genesis of the new series. “Jennie Garth and I were like, ‘What would be something fun?’ and so we decided what would it be like if an entire ensemble cast played themselves. There’s been shows like “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” episodes where its heightened versions of people playing themselves. This is the first time an entire cast will be playing heightened versions, so people would be going, ‘What’s fictional, what’s not fictional?'”

The series was announced back in February with everyone from the original series expected to return, except for Doherty who had not yet signed to join the series. Former “Beverly Hills 90210” star Luke Perry, passed away back in March after suffering from a stroke. Perry was not expected to be part of the new series prior to his death, as he was currently starring on the CW series “Riverdale.” It is rumored that the series will be paying a tribute to Perry in one of the episodes.

“Beverly Hills 90210” originally aired from 1990 until 2000. Doherty left the series after four seasons in 1994. She did return for several episodes of the CW’s “90210” in 2008.
