HOLLYWOOD—Awards season is still in full swing, as the 2018 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) unveiled their nominations for the best in the cinematic world. The BAFTA Awards are equivalent to the Oscars, only they take place in Britain.
Leading all films was “The Shape of Water” which earned a total of 12 nominations including Best Film. Followed close behind were “Three Billboards Outside, Ebbing Missouri” and “Darkest Hour” which earned 9 nominations apiece. Well, plenty of familiar faces returned to the canvas there were several films left out in the cold including Steven Spielberg’s “The Post” which didn’t earn a single nomination.
The same sentiment was echoed for the Netflix drama “Mudbound,” while Jordan Peele is still left out in the Best Director race, and Denzel Washington wasn’t seeing any love for his performance in “Roman J. Israel Esq.” Another big surprise was the inclusion of Denis Villeneuve in the Best Director race for the film “Blade Runner 2049. A full list of this year’s nominees can be viewed below:

There ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 18 at the Royal Albert Hall. The ceremony will be hosted by Joanna Lumley, who will replace Stephen Fry.
