SAN JOSE—Antti Niemi gave up three goals in regulation, but shutoutAnaheim in the end. The Ducks couldn’t find their way to score any points in the shootout giving the San Jose Sharks a 4-3 win at the HP Pavilion Saturday night. The Sharks hopped over the Ducks in the Pacific Division standings to close out November.

Both teams opened the first period that began with Mark Fistric charging San Jose’s Mike Brown; that led to Tim Jackman to throw the first punch at Brown that ended with both trading fighting majors. Before the fight took place, the Ducks ran out ahead with Corey Perry scoring his 15th of the season on a wrist shot that ringed high under the crossbar to take an early lead. San Josehad the advantage in the period outshooting the Ducks 12-8, but with the lead out of their hands the Sharks would find time to respond.

It would be San Jose through the entire middle frame scoring to take a 3-1 lead with Logan Couture scoring on a tip in from Marc-Edouard Vlasic’s shot on the net for his ninth, four minutes into the second period. Marty Havlat was the last to score in regulation for San Jose as his backhander found the net recording his second. The Sharks ran the second outshooting Anaheim 16-9, but the game wasn’t over.

The Ducks marched backed with Alex Grant scoring his first NHL career goal at 12:50 on a far angled shot that put Anaheim down a goal. The Ducks tied the game three to four minutes later with Ben Lovejoy’s first of the season that came with Nick Bonino winning the puck on the faceoff in the Sharks end. The Ducks scoring chances on the net took the Sharks defense out, and sent the game to overtime, but it was not enough to secure a win.

It would be a battle of goaltending with each goalie giving up three goals. Niemi would be the one holding the victory and he held shots from Bonino, Perry and Kyle Palmieri. Joe Pavelski would be the solo point needed for the Sharks to grab the extra point that sent them ahead of Anaheim for the division lead. The Ducks finished November with an 8-4-3 record that kept them ahead of cross town rival the Los Angeles Kings, who they host at the Honda Center Tuesday night.
