After watching a graphic news program on animal testing, Founder and CEO, Julie Kirk made it her mission to be more aware and active in regards to animal welfare. Focusing on the well being of animals, Kirk became a vegetarian and began a soul searching process.
During her quest, Kirk began to question the beauty and personal care products she was using and their alleged testament of being cruelty-free. It became more challenging to find products (brands) that were truly cruelty free and available from one source.
Kirk developed the Cruelty Free Consumer concept in 2006 and launched the website in 2011. Cruelty Free Consumer.com, allows customers to purchase cruelty free products in one place. Cruelty Free Consumer provides hundreds of products in various categories including beauty, baby, pet and home. Each product provided by the company is certified as cruelty-free by the Leaping Bunny Coalition, (The Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics, or CCIC)
“Cruelty Free Consumer introduces these phenomenal cruelty-free products that are safe for both children and pets.” said Kirk. “We are always adding more products and brands. Currently, we offer over 30 national brands on the site. Our goal is to be the largest online retailer of Leaping Bunny certified cruelty-free products. It’s a work in progress and we are always adding new brands to offer to our customers.”
Through her company, Kirk hopes consumers will pay closer attention to the products they buy. Kirk wants to bring attention to the impact of purchasing cruelty free products, and supporting cruelty free brands.
Kirk continues to expand her company while giving back to a number of nonprofit organizations. “It is rewarding to give back, bring awareness to consumers and make a difference in the lives of our animal friends and companions,” said Kirk.
