Skeleton Discovered By Griffith Park Hiker

GRIFFITH PARK—A hiker passing through an unofficial Griffith Park game trail discovered a human skeleton.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., on Wednesday, April 8, the hiker reported the skeleton to park rangers, who responded to the 4700 block of Crystal Springs Drive, located near the Harding Municipal Golf Course.

The hiker discovered the skeleton while passing through a Griffith Park game trail.

The remains were found in what appeared to be the dwelling of a long-dead transient person who had made a home in the remote Griffith Park location.

The encampment, shrouded by trees in an area between the local baseball field and merry-go-round, was covered in camping supplies that included blankets, clothing, and water bottles.

The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed to the public. The remains are so decomposed that officers could not immediately determine if the person was male or female.

Authorities are also working to determine if the person died by natural causes or foul play.
