SANTA MONICA—The Santa Monica Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying witnesses or victims in connection with a drugging with the intent to commit a felony case, according to a press release from the SMPD.

On Thursday, May 26, SMPD officers responded to a radio call of suspicious circumstances at the Fig Restaurant on 101 Wilshire Boulevard. Witnesses saw the suspect, Michael Hsu, drop an unknown substance into his female companion’s drink while she was in the restroom.

The witnesses informed the victim and staff, and the restaurant notified the police. The responding officers conducted a preliminary investigation into the allegation and then placed Hsu under arrest.

Hsu was transported to the SMPD Jail where he remains in custody on a $1 million bail. The drink from the restaurant and other items were taken as resident. The SMPD Detectives executed a search warrant at Hsu’s residence.
