UNITED STATES—I am so HAPPY the election is over! I mean super excited. I was so tired of the mudslinging, and the hatred that was being spewed to the American people. Unfortunately, I didn’t expect the election of Donald Trump to be the next individual to succeed President Barack Obama would divide this country in the way that it has been divided.
It is frankly shocking people, I mean just shocking. The level of outrage, the level of hate, the level of violence has made me question just what America has become. The level of protests this country has seen in the past week? Cannot even be described with words, it has been gargantuan. There are protests taking place every single day, throughout the United States.
What is scary is the fact that some of these so called protests or testaments to free speech have gone a bit overboard. I have seen more people get punched in the face, pushed, slapped kicked and far worse in viral videos in the past 7 days. It does raise the question of what would have transpired if Hillary Clinton won the election to become the next President of the United States of America. Would people from the opposing side be willing to protest and make their voices be heard as much as the other side? That is indeed a question for the masses.
In no shape or fashion will I condone any of the rude, disturbing and what some could argue racist comments that Donald Trump made during his campaign. They are completely unacceptable and quite baffling to say the least. I can ONLY hope that being elected to one of the most powerful positions in the world will tame Trump and open him to a new light to think before he speaks, because words can be just as powerful as actions.
There is this bubble of concern that Trump’s rhetoric has spewed hate across America. And some could make valid claims to that assertion. However, taking out your frustrations on others is just simply unacceptable. I mean I saw a video of a guy not only have his vehicle stolen, but be brutally assaulted in Chicago by several people because he voted for Donald Trump.
No matter what happens Americans have to accept that Donald Trump will be our president for the next 4 years. So until November 2020, we will have to find a way to come to grips with what democracy has proven time and time again: the voters have spoken and we have to live with the result. Of course, we are all aware that if Trump does anything illegal and questionable there is always a chance he can be impeached. No president is immune to being impeached and while it’s a rarity in the history books, it has indeed happened.
I’m hoping in the next few weeks we can start to spread a bit more love amongst one another and stop spewing so much hate. Fear is dangerous people because it leads to violence. While hate is strong, love is more powerful and can triumph any level of hate that is thrown our way.
