SANTA MONICA—Charges have been filed against Stephen Lloyd Fader, 42, by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for his role in the stabbing death of his mother.

On January 24, at about 6:23 a.m., the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) responded to the 1200 block of Sunset Avenue about a male requesting assistance. After arriving on the scene, officers found three adults, two males and a female, suffering from multiple stab wounds. The female died from her stab wounds at the scene. The male victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition and a second male was taken to the hospital to be treated for stab wounds to the abdomen.

The preliminary investigation by SMPD Detectives indicated that the three individuals are related: mother, father, and son. Detectives established information leading to Fader as the suspect involved in the crime.

Lt. Saul Rodriguez of the SMPD informed Canyon News via email that no motive has been established for the stabbing.

“The father is in stable condition but still hospitalized,” said Lt. Rodriguez. He indicated out of respect for the family, authorities are not releasing the booking photo for the suspect.

He has been charged with 187(a) PC – Murder; and 664/187 PC – Attempted Murder. Fader remains in custody pending future court proceedings with a bail option of $2 million.
