LAS VEGAS, NV—“I knew Stephen Paddock as a kind, caring, quiet man. He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of that I understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible like this was going to happen,” said Marilou Danley, the girlfriend of Las Vegas shooter, Stephen Paddock, via her attorney Matthew Lombard on Wednesday, October 5.

Paddock and Danley met at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, Nevada where she worked as a high-limit hostess. The 62 year-old mother, grandmother, and native of the Philippines was allegedly sent back to her home country by Paddock days before the attack; he also reportedly issued her $100,000 while she was there to purchase housing for her family. To Danley, the inexpensive trip home and money was a way for Paddock to end their relationship.

Danley arrived back in the United States on Tuesday, October 4 and was queried by FBI officials. She denied any knowledge of a pending mass murder. Through Lombard, Danley continuously insisted that she knew Paddock as a “kind and caring man” and would willingly participate in the investigation of her boyfriend.

“He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of that I understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible like this was going to happen,” Danley contended via Lombard. She noted that she loved Paddock and had yearned for a “quiet future” with him.

“I am devastated by the deaths and injuries that have occurred and my prayers go out to the victims and their families and all those who have been hurt by these awful events,” Danley stated.

She was labeled a “person of interest” to authorities after the shooting transpired. Officials have noted a desire to locate Paddock’s motive through Danley.
