WOODLAND HILLS—A high speed chase resulted in a crash in Woodland Hills on Tuesday, July 9. An alleged armed suspect crashed into a Chase Bank on De Soto Ave and Venture Boulevard. Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department engaged in an hours long standoff with the suspect before he was taken into custody.

The pursuit began approximately 12:40 a.m. A video from the scene displays the suspect surpassing two police cars and speeding away.

A PIT maneuver was placed to end the chase, but the suspect was able to get away before crashing into the bank.

The suspect pointed a firearm at authorities, driving erratically Detective Meghan Aguilar told KTLA News.

Crisis negotiators and family of the suspect were able to get him to surrender to authorities. The suspect initially threatened to pour gasoline on himself and burn both him and the bank. He was later taken to the hospital for injuries he sustained after crashing into the bank.

Authorities have not disclosed the name of the suspect to the public.
