SANTA MONICA—A Santa Monica man was shot on Sunday, August 28 by a suspect wearing a mask from the movie “Scream” during what police are describing as an attempted home invasion robbery.

A homeowner on the 600 block of Adelaide Drive interrupted an attempted home invasion on Sunday at approximately 6:20 a.m. The victim got into a physical altercation with the suspect before he was shot.

The suspect fled the scene of the crime before the Santa Monica Police Department arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition and is expected to recover. The name of the victim has not yet been disclosed to the public.

The invasion transpired after what police referred to as an “overnight social gathering.” A SMPD spokesperson confirmed several people were inside the home at the time of the shooting. It is still unclear whether or not anything was stolen.

The suspect is described as a man in dark clothing with a dark hoodie.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Santa Monica Police Department at (310) 395-9931 or (310) 458-8942.
