MALIBU—A man who allegedly committed multiple vehicle burglaries in the Los Angeles and Ventura county areas has been taken into custody by Malibu Sheriff’s deputies.

Detectives served a search warrant at the suspect’s home on August 30, according to a news release e-mailed by Lieutenant Andrew Russo, of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station, to Canyon News.  Approximately 400 items of property, believed to be stolen, have been recovered.  Detectives also found narcotics and narcotics paraphernalia at the address.

The suspect, 28-year-old Tarzana resident Neil Jarrod Hefner, is suspected of stealing 163 cellular phones, computers, wallets and other items of value to the alleged victims. One victim reportedly recovered his lost cell phone by coming across another that resembled his on Craigslist.

The victim purchased the new phone, which he was able to identify as his after finding that it was still storing his personal data. The victim contacted police and provided them with Hefner’s address, which was written on the delivery package.

Deputies later apprehended the suspect at his residence. An investigation is being conducted and Hefner’s bail was set at $50,000.

Anyone with further information that may assist in the investigation of these serial burglaries, as well as in identifying the owners of the recovered items, is asked to contact Detective Frank Bausmith at 818-878-5534.
