BEVERLY HILLS — A free tax aid service is being offered to seniors of the city that began on February 5.The program, which is run by the AARP in cooperation with the IRS, is meant to help low- to middle- income residents over the age of 60. The service will be supervised and run by volunteer tax counselors who have been trained and certified by the IRS, and they will aid anyone who chooses to use the service in preparing their federal and state tax forms in addition to answering tax questions, according to a news release from the city.
To participate, residents will need to bring several forms with them. These forms include proof of identity, copies of 2012 income tax returns, social security numbers or individual tax numbers for all people listed on tax returns, evidence of income like W-2’s or 1098 forms, care provider identification numbers and banking info like voided checks for refund deposits.
The service will last until April 11 at the Beverly Hills Public Library located on 444 North Rexford Drive. Appointments must be made, and they will take place between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. every Wednesday and Friday on a first-come, first-served basis. The city’s Community Service Department will help in “the dissemination of information regarding income tax preparations,” but they did note that they will not be held responsible for the accuracy of said information, according to the release.
