NEW YORK—The nominees for the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards were announced on Tuesday, July 23 and leading the pack of all contenders were two pop divas. Both Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande each earned 10 nominations apiece including Video of the Year. Not far behind was Billie Eilish who picked up nine nominations followed by Lil Nax X with 8 nominations.

The ceremony opened the door for two new categories: Best K-Pop (have no idea what that means) and Video For Good (isn’t that the same as inspirational video)? I feel like MTV is losing its grip, I mean the network rarely plays music videos anymore and what made the MTV VMAs so fun was sticking to its roots.

The 2019 Moon Men will be handed out on Monday, August 26 from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The ceremony will air on MTV at 8 p.m. Comedian and actor Sebastian Maniscalco is slated to host the show.
