MALIBU—A 15-year-old boy on July 19 was airlifted to UCLA Medical Center after falling from a cliff while hiking.
According to reports, the teenage boy and his brother were hiking when he fell approximately 30 feet from an ocean side cliff in the Pirate’s Cove area of Point Dume.
The Malibu Beach Team with assistance from Los Angeles County Lifeguards and the Los Angeles County Fire Department received a call phone call at approximately 4:15 p.m. about the hiker.
Upon arrival, the team of officials was directed by the victim’s brother to the cliff, where Los Angeles County Lifeguards used a rescue boat to gain access to the victim. Due to the rough conditions of the oceans tide, the team took the initiative to airlift the boy to safety.
A press release issued by the Malibu Lost Station to Canyon News indicated that after the patient was stabilized, a LACFD rescue helicopter was able to airlift the teen to a nearby hospital.
The rescue was described as an outstanding example of inter-agency cooperation under extremely challenging circumstances.
Cheryl Sims, supervising dispatcher with the LACFD indicated that the teen suffered a head trauma with a possible broken rib and leg. The victim’s identity has not yet been released to the public. He is listed in stable condition.
