HOLLYWOOD—ABC’s “The Doctors” is an informative talk show that will open your eyes about your health. The show debuted in September 2008 and is continuing to gain viewers. The series includes a panel of doctors who discuss issues pertaining to babies, children, teens and adults. There is something for everyone. Joining the panel are emergency room physician Travis Stork, obstetrician/gynecologist Lisa Masterson, plastic surgeon Andrew Ordon and pediatrician Jim Sears, each have a vast amount of knowledge in their particular field of medicine.

What works so well for the series is the chemistry between the doctors.  They get along so well even though they all have different viewpoints about particular issues.  Watching is like going to the doctor without actually having to sit in the waiting room.  The ability to gain such vital information from experts in the medical field regarding your weight, skin, illnesses, pregnancy and a sleuth of other topics is invigorating.  Some may think by watching the series they can learn everything about their body without ever having to visit the doctor, but that’s wrong.  It’s important to get a monthly checkup or visit your doctor whenever something isn’t right with your body, and if you have children then it’s even more vital to visit the doctor occasionally.

There are many times when special guests appear on the show who are experts in their field. They discuss topics pertaining to their expertise and things that the public should be aware of or are interested in learning more about. Take for example the episode that featured talk show host Wendy Williams, who came onto the show to discuss her issues with her thyroid problem. So many people with questions about dieting and weight loss, which is connected to the thyroid gland, tuned in.

I can’t believe how little I knew about diet sodas before watching the series.  I believed that something labeled “diet” didn’t have any calories so it’s good for you. Nope. While it doesn’t have calories it still has artificial sugars and sweeteners, which are not good for the body and can contribute to a higher risk of contracting diabetes. The show also tackles the ever-evolving world of the opposite sexes and relationships. Why women behave the way that they do and as men how we can understand their behavior.

Knowing the correct symptoms in your body can be the difference between life and death.  “The Doctors” has opened my eyes to really understand my body and if something doesn’t feel right, there’s a reason for it so don’t be afraid to seek help.  It’s always great to see the doctors give demonstrations of particular procedures many people endure; it reassures the public that what we always hear from others isn’t the case.  It’s great to see the experts in their fields not be afraid to display the correct ways to workout to stay on their exercise regimen or inform the viewer of ways to react in an emergency situation to be prepared if something unexpected occurs.  The show isn’t serious all the time; they do discuss things we’re not always open to discussing like bad habits that both men and women keep from one another.

Everyone knows the importance of water, but actually seeing the doctors explain step-by-step why water is so vital to the body and our daily operations is amazing.  Knowing important numbers for your body like weight, body mass index and blood pressure is crucial to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.  If you’re someone who likes to stay current on new health trends, ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle and learning more about your body and how it works “The Doctors” is a must-see show.  “The Doctors” airs daily on ABC; check your local listings for times.
