BRENTWOOD—On April 30, the Archer School for Girls started their Third Annual Film Festival which will end on Thursday, May 1. According to the Archer Film Festival website, the “2014 Archer Film Festival is a high school student film festival dedicated to empowering female filmmakers. [Their] goal is not to exclude men, but rather to include women. As a result, the festival is open to all high school student filmmakers.”

Founded in 1995, The Archer School for Girls’ website introduces the school’s basic premise – that girls thrive in a learning environment of their own – is now playing out across the country: since our founding, over 25 girls’ schools have started in the US.’

The event will be held at the AMC Century City 15 on 10250 Santa Monica Boulevard 2000 Los Angeles, CA. The Red Carpet Reception for the event starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by a Keynote Speaker, novelist Amanda Brown who wrote “Legally Blonde” and film finalist at 7:15 p.m. The film event itself starts Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. presenting the film segments: Women in the Industry, Breaking into the Business and The Future of Television.

The first segment, Women in Film, starts at 10:15 a.m. and is expected to end at 11:00 a.m. will feature Kristine Belson, a producer who worked on the films 2010’s “How to Train Your Dragon” and 2013’s “The Croods.” The first segment will also include Founder of ID Public Relations’ Kelly Bush, Head of Independent Film Group at UTAs’ Rena Ronson, Partner at Management 360s’ Lainey Sorkin Becky and the Director/Assistant Director of “Revenge,” Jennifer Wilkinson.

The second segment, Breaking into Business, starts at 11:15 a.m. and ends at 12:00 p.m. This segment features Madeline DiNonno of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media; Writer of MTV’s “Awkward,” Vera Herbert; and the Creator of YourIndustryInsider.com, Jenny Yerrick Martin.

The final segment, Future of Television will begin at 12:45 p.m. and will end at 1:30 p.m. This segment features the Executive Vice President at Universal Television, Bela Bajaria; the Vice President of Programming at Showtime, Robin Gurney; Actor Joshua Malina of “Scandal” and “The West Wing”; Co-Head of Television at Paradigm, Andy Paradigm; President Paramount Television, Insurge Pictures & Digital Entertainment, Amy Powell; Actress Mindy Sterling of “Austin Powers,” Disney Channel, “Desperate Housewives,” Creative Director, and Advertising Consultant on AMC’s “Mad Men,” Josh Weltman.
