BEVERLY HILLS—On Sunday night the 62nd Primetime Emmys will be broadcast on NBC from NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in downtown Los Angeles. The HBO hit documentary “The Pacific” leads the list of nominated dramas, with HBO receiving an historic 101 nominations. However, last weekend the technical Emmys were announced, and Hollywood superstar Seth Green won for his popular “Robot Chicken” series in the Outstanding Short-Format Animated Program category. Putting a spotlight on Seth Green seems in order, since the handsome actor, writer, director and producer is one of the busiest men in Hollywood.

Along with Seth, who is one of the executive producers and series writers, other winners for the series include Matthew Senreich, Keith Crofford, Mike Lazzo, Alex Bulkley, Corey Campodonico, Ollie Green, Douglas Goldstein, Tom Root, Hugh Davidson, Mike Fasolo, Kevin Shinick, Zeb Wells, Chris McKay and Ethan Marak. The team is comprised of writers, producers, animation directors and directors. When it comes to a popular series like this, there are so many people involved with the production of it.

Matthew Senreich and Tom Root created “Titan Maximum,” which they produce with Seth (Green), who also plays a villain on the show.  The “Titan Maximum” costume designer, Jeanette Moffat, won an Individual Achievement Emmy for Costumes in a Variety/Musical or Special, which includes stop-motion.  It’s the first time a costuming Emmy went to someone who dresses characters for animation (stop-motion, in this case) instead of people.

Seth Green is lucky he can do without much sleep since he’s always working on multiple film and TV projects. Green is the star of Disney’s “Mars Needs Moms,” a performance capture film that Robert Zemeckis produced ala “Polar Express” that will be released in March, 2011. Green co-starred with John Travolta and Robin Williams in Disney’s comedy, “Old Dogs.”

The project that keeps him the busiest is “Robot Chicken,” the Emmy-winning Outstanding Short Format Animated Program winner this year for the stop-motion animated series he and Matthew Senreich created for Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. The show was renewed for a record- breaking 40 episodes for seasons five and six. The duo produce/write and sometimes direct (with Green doing 35 ”“ 60 voices each week) “Robot Chicken,” which debuted in February 2005, and has earned great reviews and garners the highest ratings of any original Adult Swim program ever. The sketch parody show, which regularly beats all other ad-supported cable and many network shows in the ratings, lampoons pop culture and features lots of Green’s celebrity friends doing voice-overs.

On December 12, “Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode III” will air featuring Anthony Daniels (C3PO), Billy Dee Williams and Ahmed Best reprising their roles from the films and Zac Efron as Anakin, Mike Henry (“The Cleveland Show”) and a host of celebrity guests. Green directed the first two specials which featured George Lucas and Carrie Fisher, respectively. The DVDs were the top-selling TV shows on DVD upon release. The first two specials and show yielded Emmy-nominations for Seth, the special and show and Annie Awards for the special, show, writing and directing. Green and Senreich’s Stoopid Monkey Productions produce feature films and TV shows. Along with Tom Root, the duo executive produce a Adult Swim’s, “Titan Maximum,” which debuted to great ratings last fall with Green voicing the villain. The trio also have a pilot script/presentation deal with 20th Century Fox for a primetime animated show.

Green continues to record new episodes of “Family Guy” (as son Chris Griffin), Fox’s hit animated comedy series that is also drawing record ratings. Green reprised his “Entourage” role as his own fictional jerky alter ego. He and Hugh Sterbakov created “The Freshmen,” a successful comic book series for Top Cow. Green garnered raves for starring in Paramount’s “Without a Paddle,” “The Italian Job” and “Party Monster.” He began starring in films when he was 8 and remains funny, brilliant and a known scene-stealer. Entertainment Weekly previously named him Best TV Actor and E! Entertainment Television’s poll proclaimed Green the hottest young actor in Hollywood. He’s equally popular among critics and fans.

Green starred in all three record-breaking “Austin Powers” films. He co-starred in “America’s Sweethearts” and had starring roles “Rat Race,” “Knockaround Guys” and “Can’t Hardly Wait.” As a kid, Green starred in Woody Allen’s “Radio Days.” He has numerous other films and many previous television series to his credit including “Four Kings,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Greg the Bunny.”

Thanks to Seth for letting me focus this week’s news column on a positive figure in Hollywood, who is more than just handsome and talented. Seth is a great person and friend to all he knows!

Good luck to all of the nominees on Sunday night.
