BEVERLY HILLS—This week in Hollywood I caught up with two stars who are doing their part to help others in need, and they are also trying to save the environment; actor Randy Quaid ran north of the border; Charlie Sheen’s night in NYC turned into a PR disaster; and “Dancing With The Stars” continues to surprise viewers.

Two-time Emmy-winning actor Rick Hearst, who currently portrays Whip on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” wants to invite all of his fans to come out on Sunday, November 7, at 6 p.m. at Nic’s Restaurant in Beverly Hills, which is the location for the 5th annual H.A.R.K. fundraising event. Rick will be on hand for the silent and live auction. Also, you can bid on children’s artwork and be regaled by the excitement of my friend Rick, who will MC the evening. Rick has named H.A.R.K. his chosen charity.

Event tickets are $75 per person, with all proceeds going directly to the Artists Program at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles. H.A.R.K. offers support to patients and their families at the hospital. Hearst spoke exclusively with us about the event and why it means so much to him and more about this charity. “H.A.R.K. is a privately funded arts therapy program for the young patients at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. It deals primarily with those children that are undergoing treatments for chronic and terminal illnesses. The purpose of the program is to give these children the ability to express artistically what they are going through,” said Rick. “Now, to the average person and even someone in our industry, it might seem a frivolous undertaking to invest in a program such as this. What benefit could it possibly provide to these children that conventional drugs and physical therapy could not? I thought the very same thing. Until I visited these children. We all know how our lives have been blessed and changed by this industry. It has been a source of expression, creation, and community that has fortified all of us artistically as well as financially.”

Rick is such a busy person, so I asked him what made him decide to do his part and make a difference in the lives of children many people shun or turn away from. Hearst said, “The world for these children exists within the walls of a hospital. The ability to vision a place beyond their own hospital bed and treatment rooms is more daunting than some of us would be able to endure for a given day. I have worked with this charity because I know that every dollar goes to resources to sustain this program. It has been privately funded for all the years I have been involved with H.A.R.K.”

One of the things about Rick, is that he really tries to make a difference whenever he’s involved in any project. Here’s your chance to help support children in our community who desire and deserve hope. Rick summed up his goals for this year’s annual event and for H.A.R.K.’s future. “Tommy, my hope is for this program to grow to a place of financial sustainability,” concluded the Emmy winner. Randy and Evi Quaid fled Hollywood earlier in the week and arrived on the Canadian border asking for asylum from the threat of “Hollywood Whackers,” who the couple described as a shadowy group in Tinseltown that has been responsible for the deaths of actors Heath Ledger and David Carradine. The two are expected to be returned to California to go on trial in Santa Barbara for allegedly vandalizing a home there.

Charlie Sheen also spent a night in a hospital this week when he allegedly was found mentally unbalanced and has been accused of damaging his hotel room at the famed Plaza Hotel in Manhattan. Sheen was there to spend time with his ex-wife Denise Richards and the couple’s two young daughters. By Thursday, Sheen had returned to the set of “Two and a Half Men.” The Aspen District Attorney’s office says that his incident in NYC won’t make any difference with his case there, where he is currently completing probation for a domestic abuse conviction involving his estranged wife, Brooke Mueller.

“DWTS” contestants Brandy and Bristol really performed at their best so far in the competition. Bristol’s confident and warm personality has emerged and Brandy seems to be working out frustrations she’s recently had to deal with in her personal life.

My friend Lesley Bohm, who is one of the industry’s most incredible photographers told me last night about her new coffee table book. “This is the story through photography of my personal and professional journey over the last few years and all of the people that I’ve been lucky enough to meet on the way. They have come through my studio to take pictures for their websites, books and Marketing material. I have worked with entrepreneurs and authors and visionaries each whom I have learned from. They have shared their world with me and we have both been changed by the experience and photography that I have created for them. It has been a fulfilling and life changing collaboration,” said Bohm. “Pivotal Moments: My Story From Darkness to Light” is available now. Pivotal Moments. Tanna Frederick regrets that she had to cancel her event Actors for Oceans in West Hollywood previously because of bad weather here in L.A. a couple weeks ago, and now the beautiful star is busy with pre-promotion for “Queen of the Lot,” which will debut in Hollywood on Thursday, November 8.  I have a cameo in this latest Henry Jaglom film.  You can check it out at YouTube – Official Queen of the Lot movie Trailer 2010. “Y&R” star Kate Linder said of the film this week. “I saw Tommy [Garrett] in the trailer of ”˜Queen of The Lot.’ He was terrific. I can’t wait to see the entire film. I am absolutely thrilled for him. No one deserves this more. He is always singing everyone else’s praises. Finally I have an opportunity to sing his,” said Kate.

See you next week! XOXO
