SHERMAN OAKS—A large eucalyptus tree fell onto the 405 freeway just south of Burbank Boulevard, causing three vehicles to collide on Thursday, February 21.

The incident was reported around 1:22 p.m. Branches and debris were removed and by 2:40 p.m. all lanes of the southbound 405 were reopened to motorists except the Burbank on-ramp.

Five people were evaluated at the scene and one of the drivers, Mark Webb, was transported to a local hospital for laceration to his foot according to the California Highway Patrol.

“I will never be able to thank all of you for saving me after a tree fell on me while driving on the 405 SB yesterday,” said Mark Webb on Twitter. “The sheer relief as I saw you guys walking towards us was everything I needed to see at that moment.”

“For unknown reasons, the tree fell from the right shoulder across traffic lanes and collided with their vehicle,” said Weston Haver Public Information Officer for the California Highway Patrol.

Weather was cold and windy with rain, snow and hail being reported around the Southland.
